One thing that happens as you age is that your memory turns into a trickster. You have an idea. It takes a few seconds to finish up the thing you're doing, and by the time you switch to do it, you've forgotten the idea.
At age 60 this is already happening too often. It's disturbing, because the work I do depends on having really good memory. We build huge castles with add-ons and annexes, and new wings, and tunnels connecting to entirely new systems of palaces and empires.
My answer -- become really good at notetaking. Even so I lose good ideas too often. I wonder what will happen as this gets worse. What will my brain be good for in the future? Maybe there's a way to turn weaker short-term memory into an advantage?
